Job Profile

Core Purpose

We are looking for an enthusiastic and committed Teacher of Design Technology to join our dynamic secondary school team on a full-time contract. The successful candidate will deliver high-quality Design Technology teaching, inspiring students to achieve their full potential while upholding the ethos, values, and aims of Turing House School.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan and deliver engaging lessons in Design Technology across Key Stages 3, 4, and where appropriate, 5.

• Develop and adapt teaching resources to meet a range of student needs and abilities.

• Monitor, assess, and record pupil progress, providing timely and effective feedback.

• Prepare students for internal and external assessments.

• Create a positive and supportive classroom environment that promotes learning and progress.

• Support students’ wider personal development and well-being.

• Engage actively in the school’s pastoral system and provide guidance and support to students as a form tutor or mentor.

General Responsibilities (all staff)

• Assist in the delivery of the curriculum through the scheduled teaching programme and provide cover for absent teachers in emergencies.

• Perform duties and attend meetings as reasonably required.

• Assess and record students' achievements, prepare reports, and participate in parental consultations.

• Participate in the School's performance management scheme.

• Undertake in-service training to keep abreast of developments in school initiatives, curriculum, and subject areas.

• Contribute to the school's pastoral system.

• Observe and implement current school policies and good practice.

• Carry out such duties as the Headteacher may reasonably direct from time to time, in accordance with the Teachers' Pay and Conditions of Service Act 1987.

• Be committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.

• Adhere to all relevant school and statutory safeguarding policies and procedures.

Person Specification

Qualifications and Training

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)

• Degree in Design Technology or a related subject

• Evidence of recent professional development relevant to this role

Experience

• Successful teaching experience in Design Technology, ideally within a secondary school setting

• Experience of planning and delivering lessons to a range of abilities

• Experience of effective assessment and reporting

Skills and Knowledge

• Strong subject knowledge in Design Technology and current curriculum requirements

• Ability to plan, deliver, and evaluate high-quality lessons

• Excellent classroom management skills

• Good understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures

• Effective communication and interpersonal skills

• Ability to use IT effectively to support teaching and learning
