Job Profile

Core Purpose

We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Teacher of English to join our vibrant secondary school community on a maternity cover contract. The successful candidate will deliver engaging and innovative English lessons across Key Stages 3 to 4, supporting and challenging pupils of all abilities to achieve their best. To contribute to the development of an engaging and challenging English curriculum. To uphold the values and ethos of Turing House School.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan, prepare and deliver lessons that are creative, engaging and appropriately differentiated

• Assess, monitor, record and report on the learning needs, progress and achievements of all students

• Create a positive, supportive and stimulating classroom environment

• Contribute to departmental and whole-school development as required

• Take part in meetings, parents’ evenings and staff development sessions

• Support the school’s commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children

• Carry out any other duties reasonably requested by the Headteacher or line manager

Safeguarding

• The role involves regular contact with children and is engaging in regulated activity relevant to children.

• All staff are expected to adhere to the requirements set out in Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE).

• All appointments will be subject to a satisfactory completion of safeguarding checks.

Person Specification

Qualifications and Training

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)

• Degree in English or a related subject

• Evidence of recent professional development relevant to teaching English

Experience

• Experience teaching English at secondary level

• Experience delivering a broad and balanced curriculum

• Experience supporting students of varying abilities, including SEND and EAL

Skills and Knowledge

• Strong subject knowledge of English language and literature

• Knowledge of effective teaching and learning strategies

• Ability to use assessment data to inform teaching and learning

• Excellent classroom management skills

• Good IT skills, including the use of relevant educational software

• Understanding of safeguarding responsibilities and procedures

Personal Qualities

• High expectations for all students

• Ability to build positive relationships with students, staff and parents
